摘要: Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of the types defect that can occur in friction stir (FS) welds and identifies their influence on failure mechanisms under static cyclic loading. Consideration will primarily be given to FS welding for linear joints, although some results a new repair technique pipework, taper stud (FTSW), also presented. spot briefly considered. Whilst certain are generic across broad range alloys, there appear several categories specific particular strain hardening welded aluminium which have been termed ‘onion skin’ planar defects by present authors,1,2 these discussed this chapter. Finally, brief attention paid residual stress distributions arising from as relationships exist between process parameters, heat input, peak values longitudinal stresses weld performance.3
