摘要: Although many cellular and organismal changes have been described in aging individuals, a precise, molecular cause of has yet to be found. A prior study yeast mother cells showed progressive enlargement fragmentation the nucleolus. Here we show that these nucleolar are likely due accumulation extrachromosomal rDNA circles (ERCs) old that, fact, ERCs aging. Mutants for sgs1, homolog Werner's syndrome gene, accumulate more rapidly, leading premature shorter life span. We speculate on generality this higher species, including mammals.
