摘要: Numerous studies over the span of more than a decade have shown that noninvasive brain stimulation techniques, namely transcranial magnetic (TMS) and direct current (tDCS), can facilitate language recovery for patients who suffered from aphasia due to stroke. While stroke is most common etiology aphasia, neurodegenerative causes impairment—collectively termed primary progressive (PPA)—are increasingly being recognized as important clinical phenotypes in dementia. Very limited data now suggest may some benefit treating PPAs. However, before applying same approaches with PPA previously been pursued post-stroke it will be investigators consider key similarities differences between these etiologies likely inform successful stimulation. both PPAs clear overlaps their phenomenology, mechanisms injury theorized neuroplastic changes associated two are notably different. Importantly, theories plasticity largely predicated on notion regions had uninvolved processing take new compensatory roles. PPAs, however, characterized by slow distributed degeneration cellular units within system; recruitment subserve not currently understood an aspect condition.
