摘要: OBJECTIVE To determine prevalence and relevance of coagulase-positive Staphylococcus hyicus S intermedius intramammary infections (IMI) in dairy cows the ability 4-hour tube coagulase (TC) test to differentiate staphylococci (CPS). DESIGN Prevalence CPS was determined for primiparous (point at first parturition) multiparous prevalence) 2 herd groups: 10% IMI = high (HP). SAMPLE POPULATION For prevalence, 22 herds. TC, 1,038 strains isolated from cow milk. PROCEDURE Speciation aseptically collected composite milk samples performed. Coagulase-positive isolates 4 groups were tested their coagulate rabbit plasma by hours: LP HP parturition, any time after parturition. RESULTS Of 487 study, 82.1% aureus, 17.7% hyicus, 0.2% intermedius. all herds, 34% hyicus; 9% hyicus. appeared persist end lactation (mean linear somatic cell count 3.7). The TC > or 97% sensitive, < 33% specific, had a predictive value positive range 60 aureus isolates. CONCLUSION appears capable inducing chronic, low-grade IMI. does not appear be an important mastitis pathogen. is valid use as sole method species.
