摘要: Abstract Quantification of ammonia volatilisation from wastewater stabilisation ponds is important in order to understand its significance for overall nitrogen removal these widely applied low-cost treatment systems. Ammonia rates were measured pilot plant facilities consisting one line four algae-based series and a parallel with floating mat duckweed (Lemna gibba). was assessed during period half years. The method accurate, convenient proposed analysis wide range gasses emitted possibly other aquatic (ABPs) higher than duckweed-based (DBPs). This can be explained by the lower values NH3 DBPs due shading pH values, since rate highly correlated free concentration (NH3) pond water. cover appeared not provide physical barrier unionised ammonia, because whenever concentrations equal ABP DBP also equal. Volatilisation 7.2–37.4 mg-N m−2 d−1 6.4 –31.5 mg-N m−2 d−1 ABPs DBPs, respectively. Average influent effluent ammonium measurements showed that study any system did exceed 1.5% total removal. Therefore this confirmed results simultaneous experimental work our laboratory indicating nitrification/denitrification, rather volatilisation, most mechanism N DBPs.
