The Structure of Erosive Wear Models

摘要: The complexity of the erosion process and the difficulty in modeling it are discussed. As for the complexity, the multiplicity of factors that affect the erosion process are described and the effect of these parameters in the context of erosion modeling is considered. The mechanisms of erosion that have led to the development of models are discussed. The erosion models based on different approaches are presented. Some of these models are based on the empirical approach while others are based on the concepts such as cutting, low-cycle fatigue, adiabatic shear and the like. The heterogeneity of these models is examined and the difficulty and limitations in their application to practical erosive situations are discussed. The directions for future work in the context of modeling are provided. Some suggestions are made to assist the designers in designing against erosion.
