摘要: Objective . To determine the incidence of and predisposing risk factors for lactic acidosis in HIV-infected patients on antiretroviral drugs South Africa. Design Observational case series. Setting Sinikithemba HIV Clinic, McCord Hospital, Durban. Subjects Eight hundred ninety-one HIV-positive highly active therapy (HAART) during an 18-month period commencing January 2004. Measurements results Fourteen cases (incidence rate 19 (95% confidence interval (CI): 9 - 29) per 1 000 person-years treatment) were reported. All female, with a median age 36 years weight 81 kg. The time HAART before developing was 7.5 months peak lactate level 9.3 mmol/l. stavudine (d4T), lamivudine (3TC) non-NRTI. mortality 29% (4 patients). Conclusions is higher than reported studies developed countries. This may be due to d4T, which recommended as first-line drug implication raises question whether it appropriate treatment such female gender being overweight.
