摘要: Expert knowledge is an essential component of modern society. It also a potentially difficult topic for sociology because the importance attaches to culture and context. The science has emphasised continuity between scientific expertise more traditional forms knowledge. Whilst this suggests increasing ‘democratisation expertise’ desirable, it risks erasing idea itself. This might be particularly detrimental as restricts role sociological inquiry examining how expert status attributed rather than understanding what is. paper describes these developments contrasts them with other approaches in which appears less important. concludes by setting out new approach that respects generating but, stressing socialisation experience, argues nuanced conception both real unequally distributed.
