摘要: The plasma membrane dopamine transporter (DAT) and the vesicular monoamine (VMAT2) are key regulators of neurotransmission. DAT acts to terminate actions by rapidly removing from synapse, while VMAT2 mediates loading cytoplasm vesicles for storage subsequent release. Recent data our laboratories others’ suggest that perturbation tightly regulated balance between these two transporters alters function may predispose neuron damage a variety insults. While selective degeneration DAT- VMAT2- expressing nerve terminals in striatum leads Parkinson’s disease is most well known example, several other disorders result or be exacerbated altered function. Data cell culture, knockout models, human studies reveal expression can predict vulnerability neuronal populations. Here, we review role neurodegenerative how findings applied understanding psychiatric disorders.
