摘要: Osteoarthritis (OA) treatment is a major orthopedic challenge given that there no ideal drug capable to reverse or stop the progression of OA. In regard, bisphosphonates have been proposed as potential disease-modifying drugs due their possible chondroprotective effect related obtaining greater subchondral bone quality. However, effectiveness in OA still controversial and additionally, little evidence focused on long-term preclinical studies. The aim this study was evaluate risedronate quantitative articular periarticular by histomorphometry, an experimental rabbit model advanced stage Twenty-four adult New Zealand rabbits were included study. surgically induced one randomly chosen knee, using contralateral healthy control. Animals divided into three groups (n = 8): placebo control group, sham surgery group risedronate-treated group. After 24 weeks treatment, cartilage femorotibial pathology evaluated micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) undecalcified histology. research results demonstrated animal osteoarthritic changes operated joints, showing increased thickness fibrillation associated with underlying thinning decreased trabecular These especially highlighted medial tibial compartments response surgical instability. Regarding analysis, significant correlations found between 2D histomorphometry 3D imaging micro-CT for volume, separation, number. these associations not strongly correlated, more precise measurements analysis. Concerning it did seem capacity reduce hypertrophic failed diminish superficial damage prevent loss. This provides novel information about use synovial joint tissues.
