摘要: A new conceptualization and measurement of social dominance orientation-individual differences in the preference for group based hierarchy inequality-is introduced. In contrast to previous measures orientation that were designed be unidimensional, measure (SDO7) embeds theoretically grounded subdimensions SDO-SDO-Dominance (SDO-D) SDO-Egalitarianism (SDO-E). SDO-D constitutes a systems group-based which high status groups forcefully oppress lower groups. SDO-E inequality are maintained by an interrelated network subtle hierarchy-enhancing ideologies policies. Confirmatory factor criterion validity analyses confirmed distinct dissociate terms intergroup outcomes they best predict. For first time, personality individual difference bases outlined. We clarify construct SDO strictly assessing hierarchies general, removing possible confound relating support benefitting ingroup. Consistent with this, results show among members disadvantaged ethnic minority (African Americans), endorsement SDO7 is inversely related ingroup identity. further demonstrate these effects using nationally representative samples U.S. Blacks Whites, documenting generalizability findings. Finally, we introduce validate brief 4-item each dimension. This article importantly extends our theoretical understanding one most generative constructs psychology, introduces powerful tools its measurement.
