摘要: Abstract Background: Although it has been hypothesized that glucocorticoid hypersecretion in depressed patients leads to neuronal atrophy the hippocampus, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) –based morphometry studies of hippocampus date have produced mixed results. Methods: In our MRI study, hippocampal volumes were measured 25 (13 with melancholia and 12 without melancholia) 15 control subjects. Results: No significant differences found between any subject groups, although within subjects right be significantly larger than left volumes. Additionally, total (left + right) positively correlated trait anxiety as by state/trait inventory. Conclusions: Because group is younger those reporting atrophy, we conclude longitudinal will necessary for investigation lifelong course volumetry.
