摘要: This paper hypothesizes a correlation in some species between the cambial age of transition from core (juvenile) to outer (mature) wood and photosynthetic non-photosynthetic bark. Secondly, this that relationship is causal: signal produced relation bark affects development few millimeters away. It further hypothesized periderm replaced by one at light levels below its compensation point. In T'suga heterophylla Pseudotsuga menziesii var. , which first dies (the base bark) ranges 16 33 12 43 years, respectively, for four Oregon Coast Range populations. These values are same range as ages wood, shown literature data reported here on tracheid length T. heterophylla. both species, live crown not coincident with, nor consistently higher or lower than, height lowest Data presented consistent with hypothesis formation but manipulative studies needed explore relationship.
