The bipolar recovery questionnaire: psychometric properties of a quantitative measure of recovery experiences in bipolar disorder

摘要: Background: The importance of personal recovery in mental health is increasing widely recognised. However, there no measure available to assess experiences individuals with a diagnosis bipolar disorder. This paper reports on the development Bipolar Recovery Questionnaire (BRQ) aid informed developments research and clinical practice. Methods: A draft 45 item BRQ was developed based prior literature review qualitative research. In current study panel clinicians, academics consumers rated items relevance comprehensibility leading 36 questionnaire subjected psychometric evaluation. 60 participants disorder completed along measures mood, quality life, functioning growth. Results: internally consistent reliable over month long test–retest period. scores were significantly associated lower depression mania higher wellbeing. also better functioning, life Regression analysis indicated that depression, wellbeing growth all uniquely BRQ. Limitations: Sample size did not permit exploration factor structure sample drawn from North West England thus it clear how these findings might generalise beyond this group. Conclusions: designed present indicates valid, being both symptomatic functional outcomes established definitions recovery.
