Techniques for terminating patient-physician encounters in primary care settings.

摘要: Background: Physicians in the community work on a tight and often pressured schedule; verbal non-verbal techniques to terminate patient-physician encounter are therefore necessary. Objectives: To characterize ways of terminating encounter. Methods: Using structured questionnaire we observed seven family physicians nine consultants recorded encounters assess for Results: In all, 320 were recorded, 179 (55.9%) by 141 (44.1%) physicians. The mean duration was 9.02 ± 5.34 minutes. with longer than (10.39 vs. 7.93 minutes, P < 0.001). most cases ended patient receiving printed documentation from physician (no difference between consultants). Consultants more likely end positive concluding remark such as “feel good” or “be well” (P 0.01). There no single occasion where termination initiated patient. Conclusions: Giving document appears be perceived both patients an accepted way Another good is comment well.”
