Preparation, characterization, and evaluation of corrosion inhibition efficiency of sodium lauryl sulfate modified chitosan for mild steel in the acid pickling process

摘要: Abstract The polar head and a hydrophobic long alkyl chain end of surfactants show effective adsorption on the metal surfaces metal/solution interfaces. present study deals with investigation corrosion inhibition efficiency chitosan modified an anionic surfactant, namely sodium lauryl sulfate. was characterized using spectral techniques such as ATR- FTIR NMR, thermal analytical methods that include TGA DSC. surface charge particle size distribution were analyzed Zeta potential analyzer. water-soluble evaluated gravimetric electrochemical methods. A maximum 96.44% for 6 h immersion period at 303 K obtained. process obeyed Langmuir isotherm. mechanism involved both physisorption chemisorption. Tafel impedance studies showed results in agreement method. plot indicates inhibitor controlled cathodic hydrogen evolution anodic dissolution reactions. AC supports increase coverage by inhibitor, forming protective film. Further evidence comes from characterization inhibited contact angle measurement, SEM, EDAX spectra, atomic force microscopic studies. DFT Monte Carlo simulation proper alignment experiment results.
