摘要: The likely sources of iron-oxide pigments used in prehistoric rock paintings the Lower Pecos Archaeological Region were identified on basis chemical fingerprinting using LA–ICP–MS. signatures 13 red paint samples collected from two south-west Texas sites compared with three potential source materials (ochre, siltstone and rhyolite), pigment cakes (crayons) that excavated near sampling sites. significant similarities between siltstones suggest was as colour. overlapping for one further suggests some people inhabiting area 3000–4000 years ago had acquired skills to extract iron oxide process it into pigments.
