摘要: The abilities ofEscherichia colito induce diarrhea by enterotoxin production and intestinal cell penetration have not been explored simultaneously in children with diarrheal disease. In this study, we investigated 36 infants acute 17 healthy controls. From each patient's rectal swab culture,E colicolonies were tested for intragastric inoculation suckling mice screened HEp-2 cells. Colonies showing invasiveness cells further into guinea pig conjunctivae. SalmonellaorShigellastrains isolated from 42% of the patients diarrhea. Enterotoxin-producing strains ofE coliwere found 86% group 41% Strains capability to invade epithelial 30% 12% seven patients,E colistrains demonstrated both invasiveness. an overall view, consideringSalmonella, Shigella, enteroinvasive or enterotoxigenicE coli, a possible etiologic agent was 94% However, high frequency enterotoxigenic controls suggests that some there may be coincidental carrier state actually due another cause.
