Involuntary psychiatric attendances at an Australasian emergency department: A comparison of police and health-care worker initiated presentations

摘要: Objective: To identify any significant differences in the population of patients brought to a hospital ED under involuntary mental health orders, based on whether orders are initiated by police or professionals. Methods: A retrospective analysis consecutive presentations tertiary with co‐located psychiatric emergency care centre over 12 month period, univariate and multivariate statistical comparisons. Results: Two hundred eighty‐two (making 378 presentations) met case definition were analysed. Compared medical had significantly more related violence, longer stays lower rates admission an inpatient bed, but no likely require restraint security intervention within ED. Conclusions: Patients differ considerably, impact these workload is small.
