摘要: This paper describes how transit ridership has been declining since its peak during World War II, and automobile use increasing. Efforts to lessen dependence by improving service have seen limited success: outside of major urban centers, most individuals who the option drive choose drive. Nevertheless, some do transit, understanding factors that influence this choice may be helpful in developing strategies promote increased ridership. The role attitudes neighborhood design are particular interest. Using data from a 2003 survey on travel behavior, explores associated with eight Northern California neighborhoods. Multivariate analyses for frequent showed play more significant than design. A case study Mountain View illustrated importance direct work explaining commute mode choice. If planners hope increase ridership, then they must consider travelers about addition quality service.
