Structure and variations of solar wind-Mars interaction region

摘要: Measurements of ion fluxes in close vicinity to Mars have been made by the space probes 2 and 3 during 1971–1972. Analysis measurements confirms earlier preliminary conclusion these authors about existence bow shock wave near Mars. Seventeen crossings are used obtain mean location estimate dimension obstacle. The distance subsolar point is estimated as ∼1200 km, corresponding height stagnation point, ∼400 km. Anomalously far positions shock, ∼2800 observed two satellites. New features interaction region observed. This characterized high-intensity ions with temperatures some tens electron volts convective velocities well below velocity magnetosheath. ‘cushion’ hot situated inside magnetosheath but above Martian ionosphere. Intercomparison magnetic field data shows that observations decelerated usually coincide an increase up 15–30 γ. A gradual change transport at transition from cushion favors piling model rather than internal dipole
