摘要: Abstract The precise determination of the stable C and O isotope fractionation between water calcite (CC) aragonite (AR) is special interest for climate reconstructions, e.g. paleotemperatures. Previous studies reported results from both laboratory field experiments, but their are only partly consistent. Here we present data a stalagmite Swiss Alps, which shows CC-AR transitions along individual growth layers. Using detailed analyses laterally perpendicular to such layers examined difference in factor HCO3− – CC AR system. For this similar water-CC water-AR offset provided experimental studies. system comparable those determined statistically significant correlation with CaCO3 precipitation rate. found difference, independent rate slightly smaller values compared literature values. However, also an unexpected decrease δ13C layers, contradicts widely used concept Rayleigh during CO2 degassing precipitation. study can be e.g., correct time series stalagmites showing axes.
