Habitat fragmentation and habitat loss may affect insect abundance. Generally, small isolated plant fragments support a depressed abundance of insects because lower resource compared to that in large ones. Nevertheless, immediately after fragmentation, used live the lost migrate toward remnant fragments, producing there short term an accumulation individuals. In this work, hypothesis was experimentally tested by evaluating inmediate effects on associated with alfafa. Insects two year old alfalfa crop, covering 5 ha, were sampled pitfall traps for four days, starting September 21, 2001. A week later, fragmented, leaving three blocks separated 40 m bare soil. Each block consisted five 900 m2 patches, linearly distributed 20 soil, total 4500 alfalfa. As control treatment, plot similar surface left unfragmented. again same sampling places October 8. Total increased either maintained or diminish fragments. This also observed when analizing order family responses. Thus, does not result individuals On contrary, decreased fragmentation. 8 12 octubre nuevamente mismos puntos primer muestreo. La aumento tendio mantenerse o disminuir fragmentos. Esto tambien observo nivel ordenes familias, detacando disminucion Formicidae Por lo tanto, no produjo breve plazo remanentes.
