On the role of the carotenoids in photosynthesis in Rhodospirillum rubrum.

摘要: The photosynthetic action spectrum of Rhodospirillum rubrum Esmarck strain 4 was determined. Some carotinoids were found capable absorbing photosynthetically active light. Apparently, however, the main carotenoid, spirilloxanthin, does not participate in photosynthesis. Maxima and minima spectra photosynthesis phototaxis to coincide. Thus correctness Manten's16, 17 hypothesis concerning a direct connection between both processes is strongly supported. The carotenoid seemed be less pronounced than it photosynthesis. In discussion hypothetical explanation this phenomenon has been given.
