摘要: Purpose Flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon rupture is a well-documented complication related to the use of distal radius volar locking plates (VLPs). The final common pathway flexor appears involve implants prominent at watershed line. We hypothesized that significant differences in VLP prominence exist between various plate designs. Methods Ten fresh frozen specimens were dissected identify path FPL relationship Five designs fixed each specimen based on their anatomic fit, and slid distally until edge reached position was evaluated by fluoroscopy. used 3-dimensional laser scanner create computer models. total surface area line beneath measured axial plane using software. Results At line, located 54% maximal width radius, as from its volar-ulnar corner. There no location fixation lateral view radiographs according classification Soong et al. mean 36 mm 2 . 10 Significant noted for Conclusions Despite optimal placement, observed have profiles varying extents. Clinical relevance results raise concerns regarding interference all analyzed FPL. This study may help guide both implant design considerations assist surgeon better understanding morphology it relates iatrogenic injury.
