摘要: Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) were listed as a federally threatened species in 14 states at the southern extent of their geographic range March 2000, with Maine being only state northeastern United States known to support resident population. Relatively little information is about ecology living edge range, including requirements, movements, and spatial organization. Basic knowledge needed for federal recovery planning efforts. Between 1999 2004, we trapped radiocollared 43 (21 M, 22 F) northern an intensively managed predominantly early successional forested landscape. We estimated diurnal annual seasonal home-range size male female using 85% fixed-kernel estimator. Annual home ranges adult (x = 53.6 km2) more than twice 25.7 km2). Home females during snow periods 38.3 nearly 3 times larger snow-free-period 14.3 km2), whereas, snow-free males 58.8 slightly snow-period 45.2 observed limited amount overlap among same sex (F: x 17.2%; M: 11.8%). Lynx opposite showed extensive 24.3%). Most shifts typically not extensive. Based on territory mapping, minimum density 9.2–13.0 lynx/100 km2. densities that similar populations when hares abundant other populations, suggesting region-specific studies under varying habitat conditions hare are ensure realistic goals effective management range.
