摘要: Hypothesis Metastatic workup for patients newly diagnosed as having breast cancer is variable, especially early disease (T1-2 N0-1). Routine bone scans and liver imaging are often performed without any evidence to support their usefulness. Design A retrospective review of with referred our center during a 2-year period was determine the value staging investigations in detecting metastases. Results Of total 250 after initial diagnosis, 25 (10.0%) were metastases, 23 whom had either clinical symptoms or signs suggestive metastatic abnormalities on routine blood work chest x-ray examinations. Only 2 solely scan results; none (either an ultrasound radionuclide isotope scan). Overall, 3% (5/161) pathologic T1-2 N0-1 metastases compared 30% (18/61) stage T3-4 N2 disease. Conclusions Our results confirm low yield among asymptomatic, pathologically confirmed, N0-1) cancer. Therefore, we do not recommend these tests such patients, although intensive appropriate more advanced (stage N2) tumors.
