摘要: MHD fields from a global three-dimensional simulation of the great March 24, 1991, storm sudden commencement (SSC) are used to follow trajectories particles in guiding center test particle radiation belt formation during this event. Modeling less intense events lifetime CRRES satellite, with similar morphology but radial transport and energization, is also presented. In all cases analyzed, solar proton event was followed by an SSC, leading new earthward penetration. The effect on energization varying wind model pulse parameters investigated. Both seed population protons SSC shock-induced compression magnetosphere necessary conditions for belt. outer boundary inner zone can be affected newly formed ensuing or subsequent storm, which may occur rapid succession, as case June July 1991. acceleration process effective both northward southward IMF, more inward otherwise comparable parameters, because initially compressed magnetopause case. stability depends magnitude at time ring current perturbation adiabatic trapping.
