摘要: Objective Longitudinal trends in epidemiology and utilization of total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) have not been previously reported. We evaluated the distribution age, race, hospital volume teaching status, outcomes, indications for TSA during last decade. Methods TSA cases (n = 12,758) were extracted from 1990–2000 Nationwide Inpatient Sample databases. obtained 3 time periods: 1990–1993 (period I), 1994–1997 II), 1998–2000 III). Results Between 1990 2000, there minor increases rate most age groups. Ninety-three percent patients undergoing all periods white. An increased proportion operated on high hospitals period III as compared with I. Patients discharged to inpatient rehabilitation facilities after surgery had longer lengths in-hospital stays those home. Osteoarthritis was diagnosed an increasing (56.6% I versus 70.9% III). Conclusion There a increase TSA, almost no change use by nonwhites through 2000. Efforts understand narrow this apparent underutilization among are required. Further research should determine whether observed shift centers improves surgical outcomes.
