摘要: The common chameleon Chamaeleo chamaeleon is present in many Mediterranean countries. Its occurrence Italy historically reported for Sicily, where it appears to be no longer present. While contemporary findings across the Italian Penisula refer single observations, likely due introduced or released animals, species turned out established two southern regions (Apulia and Calabria) with acclimatised populations. To investigate their provenance, we analysed tissue samples of individuals from these localities. A fragment mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene was amplified compared sequences available Genbank. Our results showed that Calabria share haplotypes those Tunisia (N. Africa), while Apulia are coincident Israel. This suggests were most Italy.
