摘要: As modern zoos evolved from menageries, quarantine practices were developed to protect animal collections the introduction of diseases that might arrive with new animals wild populations and, more recently, other managed populations. understanding of, and ability diagnose, grew tremendously in recent decades, protocols became stringent standardized as tolerance for disease decreased. These resulted healthier collections, transmissible pathogens concern rarer. Sustainable population management has further lessened reliance on taking wild, knowledge risk such situations deepened. Today being transferred between zoological institutions have well-documented medical histories complemented robust collection health histories. This improved reduced concerns about transmission many cases. Consequently, formal use analysis drive transfer-related examination, diagnostic testing, decision making was adopted by a number aquariums modified their reduce requirements, some cases moving directly into after transportation. commentary discusses rationale changes processes acquisitions aquariums, using direct making.
