摘要: Purpose This paper aims to exploit shape memory polymer (SMP) composite as multifunctional coatings for protecting substrates from surface wear and bacterial. The efficiency of added nano or micro-sized particles in enhancing the properties SMP was investigated. This study also attempts use a low-cost effective spraying approach fabricate coatings. are expected have good conformability with substrate deliver multi-functional performance, such wrinkle free, resistance, thermal stability antimicrobial property. Design/methodology/approach High-performance thin films were fabricated by home-made continuous spray-deposition system. morphologies studied using scanning electron microscope transmission microscope. abrasion evaluated Taber Abraser test, thermo-gravimetric analysis carried out investigate prepared composites. property determined inhibition zone method E. coli. thermally responsive effect resulting composites characterized. Findings The morphology indicated that nanoclay distributed on coating which resulted significant improvement property. resistance improved much 40 per cent compared control sample. revealed weight loss rate dropped over cent. zinc oxide (ZnO) showed excellent effect. recovery SMP/nanoclay SMP/ZnO can be triggered external heating reach full within 60 s. Research limitations/implications This proposed fabrication coatings, provides new avenue prepare novel low cost. Originality/value Most studies emphasized sole Herein, could multi-functionality proposed.
