摘要: The preceding chapters of this book discuss scientific research results on natural and managed oak forests growing in the highlands American Tropics. Chapter authors highlight evolutionary, ecological socioeconomic aspects specific identify existing gaps our understanding. Their work studies published elsewhere forms basis for chapter’s overview current state knowledge patterns processes which determine structure functioning these magnificent forests. increasingly important human use much needed conservation biodiverse threatened habitats are dealt with as well. Cross-cutting trends issues discussed conclusions drawn. Neotropical montane a special type tropical (Kappelle 2004), tall trees (Quercus) dominate 30to 60-m-high forest canopy, often pure stands or mixed pines (Pinus) other predominant trees. Though history, structure, species diversity, interactions, ecosystem functioning, post-disturbance recovery, may vary considerably over short geographical ranges, regional now becoming evident. Research presented clearly illustrates large-scale trends. following sections chapter synthesize each themes.
