Simultaneously, while onset of comorbidities been deferred to older age groups, health-care expenditure grown dramatically, primarily owing advancement medical technology and expansion individual income levels, along with ageing wake increased longevity. However, contribution health growth is subject some theoretical empirical scrutiny. This paper takes question care data evaluate net impact ageing. We focus on two main questions, namely welfare valuation longevity improvements for various OECD countries, ‘red herring’ hypothesis which suggests that small almost negligible expenditure. Our estimates lead us suggest an average gain 4.5 years since 1980, corresponding about 13.5 per cent lifetime 20-year-old 2000. Furthermore, we confirm weak red-herring claim, is, accounts only 0.5 annual rate Finally, find rise leads further demand life-prolonging care.
