摘要: Rural life in the Upper Hunter Region of NSW is threatened by mining and burning coal seam gas extraction. Extensive open-cut a serious threat to productive rural enterprises between Singleton Muswellbrook, while extraction expanding into communities on Liverpool Plains around Gloucester. The marginalisation has economic, environmental sociocultural dimensions. Economically, refers declining food production, industries such as thoroughbred breeding viticulture, loss commercial services towns. Environmental damage includes air water pollution, biodiversity loss, destruction aquifers waterways, fertile agricultural land. Socio-cultural impacts include threats human health, rising income inequality, depopulation villages, fabric from incursion. article examines competing scripts employed land use contests how are using new reflexive constructions 'the rural' that integrate traditional identity, discourses sustainability re-centring life. This analysis illuminates current situation possible future surrounding areas.
