The disengagement process: A neglected problem in participant observation research

摘要: Of the various phases or stages of participant observation, disengagement process has typically been glossed over in methodological discussions qualitative research. Drawing on author's fieldwork experience and scattered references to ethnographic literature, this paper systematically outlines examines problems issues associated with neglected phase process. Three interrelated questions structure inquiry. The first deals problem informational sufficiency its relation closure; second precipitants disengagement; third factors that can function as barriers impediments disengagement.
