摘要: We used aerial photographs from 1939, 1974, and 1990 to examine how land cover has changed on the 5,286-ha Charles C. Deam Wilderness of Hoosier National Forest over this time span. Digital elevation models were changes in land-cover class (closed-canopy forest, open agriculture/old-field, clearcut, pine plantation) within each type (flat uplands, bottoms, mesic slopes, dry slopes). In 1939 most lands consisted agriculture/old fields (33%) forest (25.6%), with only 41.4 % closed-canopy forest. By 1974 wilderness area had become (77.5%), an even greater proportion was that (86.3%). Since much less fragmented larger patch sizes, total edge, more core (area a > 50 m edge). varied by type: flat uplands bottoms highest agriculture old-fields (42.4% 63.3%, respectively), slopes forests (30.2% 28.3%, respectively). dominant all types.
