摘要: Cytoplasmic male sterility, conditioned by some maternally inherited plant mitochondrial genomes, is the most expedient method to produce uniform populations of pollen-sterile plants on a commercial scale. Plant genomes are not currently amenable genetic transformation, but manipulation plastid genome allows engineering traits in species. A recent study has shown that Acinetobacter β-ketothiolase gene, expressed Nicotiana tabacum plastid, conditions laying groundwork for new approaches control pollen fertility crop plants.
