摘要: Background: Successful strategies for addressing inequalities in cancer care are greatly needed as critical racial/ethnic and socioeconomic burden disparities persist the United States. Patient navigation programs a promising approach to reducing disparities. Methods: A mixed-methods evaluation was conducted systematically collect, analyze share information about context, activities, early impacts of University Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Cancer Centers' Minority Outreach Pilot Program (MOPP), newly implemented patient navigator intervention. The dissertation applies integrates two frameworks: 1) Centers Disease Control Prevention (CDC) Framework Evaluation, which provides an organizing structure standards conducting sound public health program evaluation, 2) RE-AIM framework, helps focus on issues that both relevant stakeholders assessing impact generalizability interventions. employs case study design includes qualitative (e.g., document review informal semi-structured interviews) quantitative descriptive statistical analysis database) methods examine MOPP development implementation. Results: provided valuable data related implementation achievements challenges. Additionally, produced useful products logic model reporting templates) led immediate small-scale enhancements database modifications). Results from suggest is generally being planned. However, findings also called attention key should be monitored closely within program, and, perhaps, larger movement. These include: challenges effectively navigating patients with substance abuse need address emotional work. Conclusion: significance lies its potential strengthen MOPP's UPMC population. In addition, publication research will contribute growing evidence base interventions develop literature navigation.
