摘要: Capital's commodity frontiers strategy has at once woven together regional differences within an expanding world-system and remade the productive reproductive activities of humans rest nature. The development successive gave way to long waves economic expansion that have been pivotal accelerating accumulation transcending capital's recurrent crises. In short, are constitutive world-ecological moments premised on booms crises accumulation. this paper, I examine coal frontier in Appalachia, illustrate region's history as one succeeding out region over twentieth century American capitalism. argue origin Appalachia's was decisively made through nineteenth-century agricultural revolution expressed outside region. full-fledged outcome under-reproduction strategies. crisis turned a lack surplus from strategies, competing basins, diversification energy sources. find concept not only illuminates political economies ecologies difference, but also explains production nature historical
