Clinical Relevance of Sialyltransferases ST6GAL-I and ST3GAL-III in Gastric Cancer

摘要: Aberrant glycosylation of membrane components due to specific alterations glycosyltransferase activity is a common feature carcinoma cells and usually associated with invasion metastasis. In prospective study, the enzyme sialyltransferases ST6GAL-I ST3GAL-III was studied in gastric cancer normal mucosa 55 patients by radiometric assay. Cellular localization sialyltransferase mRNA expression situ hybridization. Sialyltransferase mainly localized epithelial cells. enhanced within tumor tissue. Significant correlations were found between presence signet ring tissue (p = 0.047) or 0.024), < 0.001). Multivariate Cox analysis demonstrated that only lymph node metastases 0.044) had significant influence on tumor-related survival. showed no independent prognostic relevance multivariate analysis, but high levels correlated secondary local recurrence 0.005; p 0.012). Interestingly, also nonmalignant uninvolved altered molecular level some cases indicative alteration very early during tumorigenesis.
