摘要: Avoidance behaviour by earthworms is recognised as a valuable endpoint in soil quality assessment and has resulted the development of standardised test (ISO 17512-1, 2008) providing epigeic with choice between control soils. This study sought to develop evaluate an avoidance utilising soil-dwelling linear pollution gradients Visible Implant Elastomer (VIE) tags used identify individual organisms. Sequential experiments were established laboratory-based mesocosms (0.6m×0.13m×0.1m) that determined relative sensitivities (in terms associated behaviour) Octolasion cyaneum Lumbricus rubellus at varying levels polluted also assessed influence introduction point on recorded movement within gradients. In initial gradient (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% soil), both species exhibited clear response all surviving retrieved (after 7 days) from unpolluted soil. less 6.25%, 12.5%, 18.75%, 25%) L. throughout while O. located 0% 6.25% divisions, suggesting species-specific Results showed use system potential assess earthworm could provide more ecologically relevant alternative ISO 17512: 2008 test. However, further work required establish effectiveness this procedure, specifically chemical screening single contaminant bioavailability, where uptake pollutants be measured directly related retrieval.
