摘要: Both potato psyllid yellows and zebra chip (ZC) diseases are associated with the psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli (Sulc). Aboveground plant symptoms of both similar but there is a difference in tubers. ZC has recently been new species bacterium liberibacter, ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’, also known as ‘Ca. psyllaurous’. Mechanisms by which might cause either or not understood. Insect transmission studies were conducted to demonstrate vectoring compare development two diseases. Potato plants exposed liberibacter-free liberibacter-carrying psyllids later evaluated for tuber symptoms. These tubers then tested liberibacter polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In addition, exhibiting severe yellows/ZC-like collected from commercial field heavily infested liberibacter. PCR detected solanacearum’ symptomatic resulting exposure psyllids. Despite foliar that resemble those psyllids, no was these yellows. Moreover, did exhibit any infection negative bacterium. No psyllid-infested field, suggesting observed due Furthermore, infected died sooner than Although an association between established, pathogen yet mechanisms induced remain unclear.
