摘要: This study was conducted to determine which method for vocabulary instruction most beneficial: learning words through the context of literature and reading or isolated word lists. Subjects, 45 high school students taking Freshman English, were divided into 2 groups. All studying Charles Dickens' novel "Great Expectations." The first group consisted 22 they used second 23 learned their while reading. Both groups given a preand posttest. results showed no significant difference in mean gains both samples. Rather, methods produced vocabulary. (Contains 24 references tables data; an appendix contains test.)
