摘要: Munksgaard, Copenhagen PROBLEM: The pathogenesis of long-term sequelae in Chlamydia trachomatis infection is poorly understood. While serology indicates previous chlamydial infection, culture studies are frequently negative. We wanted to know whether chronic cases the bacterium absent or persists a dormant state where it evades detection. METHODS OF STUDY: Using immunoperoxidase (IP) staining and situ hybridization (ISH), we examined tissues culture-negative subjects. Ovarian biopsy specimens from 19 women with pelvic adhesions and/or tubal infertility were analyzed by both methods, Samples prostates 10 men undergoing prostatectomy for benign hypertrophy, two sets semen samples sexual partners 28 PID bacterial vaginosis (BV), ten endometrium-tube sample-pairs ectopic pregnancies (EPs) IP only. RESULTS: Seven nineteen ovarian tested positive antigen deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) (36%). Of hypertrophic examined, 4 (40%) positive. (35%) Tissue 3 EP IP. CONCLUSIONS: 1. C. nucleic can be demonstrated asymptomatic, infection. 2. antigens may have an etiologic role prostate hypertrophy EP. 3. Antigenic material sexually transmissible. 4. ISH identify temporarily inactive bacteria that continue act as immunostimulants potentially reactivate
