摘要: Scanning tunnelling microscopy produces beautiful atomic resolution images of surfaces which appear to show positions in a very direct fashion. However, the technique is intrinsically probe spatial variations electronic structure, so interpreting such correctly sometimes far from trivial. A brief survey presented some known effects and their physical origins, progress being made theoretical modelling has helped understand many these phenomena provide more reliable image interpretation.
