摘要: Use of bat detectors to perform inventories, determine activity, and assess differential use habitats has become a generally accepted method. However, there been vigorous disagreement as the level efficacy, primarily relating ability distinguish certain species groups species. The primary explanation suggested for inability identify is due magnitude intraspecific variation resulting in overlap among species, presumably compounded by geographic variation. Lasiurus cinereus identified exhibiting greatest degree including recent findings distinct between populations Hawaii Manitoba. We find that claims have not proven because small sample size lack adequate description method, behavior context during which bats were recorded. Previous geographical comparisons relied on standard statistical methods do allow comprehensive examination range diagnostic call parameters. present data from broad sites throughout mainland United States Hawaii, compare multivariate approach with repertoire plots characteristic frequency versus duration. Although we demonstrated finding L. cinereus, size, context, could be discounted proximal cause observed perceived across sampled did affect our structure. suggest future studies
