摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter provides excellent reviews of anesthesia, anesthesia principles, and how they can be applied to small animals such as rabbits, gerbils, hamster, mammals. Animals, no matter large or small, should have their health assessed before being subjected any anesthetic protocol. Many drugs commonly used for analgesia, sedation are classified controlled substances due potential abuse risk. Benzodiazepines sedative hypnotics single agents, in combination with opioid analgesics a preanesthetic medication. Alpha2-agonists xylazine medetomidine sedative-hypnotic agents that provide sedation, muscle relaxation, analgesia. Induction chambers widely the induction difficult-to-handle research animals. A prime feature is very minimal slight rebreathing expired gases; therefore, carbon dioxide removed by dilution. Analgesia pain-relief protocols based on individual species
