摘要: Considerable advances have been made in the effort to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) sub-Saharan Africa. Clinical trials demonstrated efficacy of antiretroviral regimens interrupt through antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. Scientific discoveries rapidly translated into health policy, bolstered by substantial investment infrastructure capable delivering increasingly complex services. A new scientific agenda is also emerging, one that focused on challenges effective sustainable program implementation. Finally, global campaigns “virtually eliminate” pediatric dramatically reduce HIV-related maternal mortality mobilized resources renewed political will. Each these developments marks a major step regional PMTCT efforts; their convergence signals time rapid progress field, characterized an increased interdependency between clinical research, implementation, policy. In this review, we take stock recent across each areas, highlighting challenges—and opportunities—of improving services for HIV-infected mothers children region.
