摘要: An impressive cloud wall has frequently been observed on the southern slopes of Vatnajokull ice sheet, which is located in south-eastern Iceland. Its optical and dynamic features suggest a delicate balance atmospheric agents involved. This confirmed by thorough analysis well documented event statistics covering whole summer season. As an exemplary event, regional development associated basically with synchronous surface data along suitable transect glacier. Data from tethered balloons, radiosoundings routine synoptic have also exploited extensively. Cloud was generally aided high moisture potential because proximity to open seas remnants frontal system. Furthermore occurrence phenomenon onshore (southerly) winds, assisting advection lifting air masses above sheet. Northward protrusion apparently opposed continuous katabatic winds topographically induced lee effects.
